Why is art important? Or: is art important? Do we need art?  What is the motivation behind the people who work in the arts?

E.K.K.O spent March of 2013 in residence at Halka Art Project in Istanbul. Our objective with the residency was to get an insight on how our colleges in the arts - artists, art manages, art teachers and art students - work, think, make and live with art in Istanbul.

The residency is part of a larger project in which we are aiming to address the roles, functions and structures of art in contemporary society.
